Since moving to Idaho, the Sawtooth Relay had always been on my radar. I've lived in Boise for nearly two years and until June, I had never been to either Stanley or Sun Valley. This summer, I got to be part of the Payette Crew that ran the 61.9 miles from one city to the other.
It took a little convincing, but I successfully gathered six coworkers and friends to run this relay with me. On Friday, June 8th, we packed up our Wandervan and headed out to Stanley for the night. Six runners. Two drivers. One van. We might've been a little tight on the drive but we made it work thanks to our big ol' rig. If you haven't heard of Wandervans or checked out their fleet, be sure to do so! They are the perfect accommodation for any weekend getaway!
Saturday morning we woke up aside the Sawtooth Mountains at the crack of dawn. Some of us were ready to run, others were anxiously awaiting their exchange station. Okay, maybe I was the only one riddled with nerves.
The day came and went in a blur stopping every three or four miles to cheer, hoot and holler. I can honestly say that this weekend was one of my favorite weekends I've ever experienced. There is nothing like running along highways 21 and 75. The views were incredible, the air was thin and the spirits were high.
A great weekend with coworkers and friends, indeed.
A huge thank you to Wandervans for providing us with the best rig for the weekend!
