Rodeo Rye Pale Ale becomes Rodeo Citra Pale Ale
Rodeo has been our Spring Seasonal the past few years, first introduced in March of 2012 on draft, then released in cans in 2014. This Pale Ale is near and dear to our hearts, loaded with Citra hops and is a sessionable thirst quencher for any time, anywhere.
Why did we first call it a Rye Pale Ale?
The recipe includes rye grain in the grist bill which gets combined with Crystal and our base malt, Pale, which weakens the spicy and sour-like characteristics often found in rye beers. It is not a predominately rye beer, but a portion of the recipe includes rye, hence the style name it originally got. (Also, Rodeo Rye Pale Ale rolls off the tongue nicely, doesn’t it?)
Why is Citra Pale Ale a better fit?
Rodeo has easily made it as a top favorite amongst the Payette Brew Crew and Payette beer drinkers, mostly because of those awesome Citra hops. The Citra hops in Rodeo provide the distinctive citrus characteristics we all love and has proven to be the beer's quintessential quality. That said, we decided to change the displayed style on the can to read more appropriately as, Citra Pale Ale. The bottom line is that it is the same great beer with the exact same recipe Rodeo has always been, but more accurately titled. Citra hops specific aroma descriptors include grapefruit, melon, lime, gooseberry, passion fruit and lychee.
Why make Rodeo year-round?
Well, that’s an easy one. A few months a year with this delicious beer just wouldn’t cut it for us. It was a great beer in our seasonal rotation, but deserves a longer lifespan. You spoke, we listened. Rodeo Citra Pale Ale is now available YEAR ROUND in six-packs, eight-packs, twelve-packs, and draft.
Coming soon: WHITE CANS – As Rodeo becomes part of our year-round line up, it will follow suit with the rest of our year-round lineup and be released in white cans. Be on the lookout!
More about the beer:
Unlike a real rodeo, the aroma of passion fruit, peaches and mangos fills the air with this sessionable ale. Rodeo is a single-hop rye, pale-style beer. Citra hops give it a tropical fruit nose and flavor with a spicy, rye kick. This is a sessionable beer, which means this might be your first, but it most definitely won’t be your last Rodeo.
